It depends on how you fly. On-demand charter is often cheaper for simple round trips on normal dates. The P3 Jet Card charges a fixed hourly rate with no repositioning, no peak-day surcharges and guaranteed availability, so it usually wins on one-ways, holidays and short-notice trips. The calculator shows both for your route and says plainly when on-demand is cheaper.
Flexible on timing? Empty legs are repositioning flights sold at 30 to 70 percent below standard charter pricing, on the aircraft's schedule. Compare card options on the P3 Jet Card page.
Most private jet charters in 2026 run from about $3,900 per flight hour for a turboprop to $19,000 per hour for an ultra long range jet. A short one-way trip in a light jet often lands between $10,000 and $20,000 all-in, while a coast-to-coast midsize or super midsize flight is typically $30,000 to $50,000. Use the calculator above to see the range for your exact route, date and group size.
Operators bill a daily minimum, usually about two flight hours per day the aircraft is engaged. A day trip in a light jet therefore starts near $10,000 to $14,000, and a midsize jet near $13,000 to $17,000, before taxes and fees. Longer flying days cost more because you pay for every hour flown plus landing fees, and an overnight adds crew lodging.
Per leg, a round trip is usually cheaper. On a one-way the aircraft often has to fly empty to or from its base, and that repositioning time is billed to you, typically around 20 percent of the flight cost. On a round trip the jet flies you both ways, so there is no empty repositioning, but you may pay crew overnight costs if you stay several nights.
A complete quote includes flight time, any repositioning, landing and handling fees, crew costs, federal excise tax and passenger segment fees. The calculator lists every one of these lines under "What's in this number." Catering, ground transportation and de-icing are usually extra and are shown separately as typical costs, not added to the estimate.
There should not be. The fees that surprise people are repositioning on one-ways, crew overnights, international permits, de-icing in winter and catering. A reputable broker lists all of them up front. P3 Jets shows every fee line in the calculator and in your written quote, so the number you approve is the number you pay unless your itinerary changes.
Yes. For domestic US flights the estimate includes the 7.5 percent federal excise tax on flight charges plus the per-passenger segment fee. International trips do not carry FET but do carry international head taxes and permit fees, which the calculator adds automatically when either airport is outside the United States.
Price depends on where the nearest suitable aircraft is sitting, which operator flies it, the day of the week, peak travel periods, how far in advance you book, and whether you fly one-way or round trip. Two quotes for the same route can differ by several thousand dollars for these reasons, which is why the calculator shows a range rather than one number.
The calculator uses P3 Jets' published 2026 hourly rates, real great-circle distances and the same fee structure our advisors use. Most real quotes fall inside the range shown. The final price depends on live aircraft availability and positioning, so an advisor confirms your exact all-in quote, usually in about 30 minutes.
On-demand charter in 2026 runs about $3,900 to $5,200 per hour for turboprops, $4,800 to $6,500 for light jets, $6,200 to $8,000 for midsize jets, $7,500 to $9,800 for super midsize jets, $9,500 to $13,500 for heavy jets and $13,000 to $19,000 for ultra long range jets. The rate table on this page lists each class.
Turboprops and light jets seat about 6 to 8, very light jets 4 to 5, midsize and super light jets 7 to 9, super midsize jets 8 to 10, heavy jets 10 to 14 and ultra long range jets 12 to 16. Comfortable capacity is often one or two below the maximum, especially with luggage, so the calculator recommends a class with room to spare.
Start with passengers and distance. Light jets suit trips under about 1,700 nautical miles for small groups. Midsize and super midsize jets cover most coast-to-coast routes. Heavy and ultra long range jets carry larger groups and fly nonstop across oceans. Golf bags, skis or oversize luggage may push you up a class. The calculator picks the cheapest class that fits.
For normal dates, booking one to three weeks out gives the best choice of aircraft. Booking under 48 hours out usually costs about 10 percent more because fewer aircraft are positioned nearby. For peak periods such as holidays, book four to eight weeks ahead, since the best-positioned aircraft are taken first.
Peak days are high-demand periods such as Thanksgiving week, the December holidays, Spring Break, the Super Bowl, Formula 1 weekends and Art Basel. Demand outstrips aircraft supply, so on-demand rates rise about 15 percent and minimums can apply. The calculator flags peak dates and adds the surcharge automatically. Choosing flexible dates can remove it.
Empty legs are repositioning flights sold at 30 to 70 percent below standard charter pricing. The catch is that the route, date and time are set by the aircraft's schedule, and the flight can be cancelled if the original trip changes. See current listings on the P3 Jets empty legs page or ask an advisor to watch your route.
Not always, and the calculator will tell you honestly. The P3 Jet Card charges a fixed hourly rate with no repositioning, no peak-day surcharges and guaranteed availability, but its hourly rate is higher than the low end of on-demand charter. On a simple domestic round trip on-demand is often cheaper. The card tends to win on one-ways, peak days and short-notice trips.
The card pays off when you fly several one-way trips a year, fly on peak dates, book on short notice or value guaranteed availability and a fixed price. Set your trips per year in the calculator to compare an annual on-demand range against the card total for the same flying, and an advisor can walk you through the breakeven.
Yes, most charter aircraft welcome pets in the cabin, subject to the operator's approval. Pet fees may apply, usually a cleaning fee of a few hundred dollars per trip, which the calculator adds when you tick "Flying with pets." International trips also need the right health paperwork. Our pet-friendly charter page covers the details.
You do not pay for a full return, but on most one-ways you pay for some repositioning, the time the aircraft flies empty to reach you or return home. The calculator includes a typical repositioning charge. An advisor can often reduce it by finding an aircraft already positioned near your route or an empty leg.
Safety decisions belong to the pilot in command and the operator. If weather delays or diverts a flight, the advisor team rebooks or reroutes you. Your charter agreement sets out how weather cancellations and extra flight time are handled, and P3 Jets explains those terms before you sign.
Tipping is optional and never expected on a charter. Some travelers tip for exceptional service, commonly $100 to $200 per crew member for a short trip, or more for multi-day trips. Crew gratuity is not included in the calculator estimate.
For groups of six or more on short routes, a light or midsize jet can come close to first-class fares per person once you count the time saved, private terminals and flying direct to smaller airports. The calculator shows a per-passenger range for every class so you can compare it with airline fares.
You charter the whole aircraft, so you can divide the cost among your own group however you like. The per-passenger figure in the calculator shows that split. P3 Jets charters full aircraft only and does not sell individual seats.
Ownership costs far more than the purchase price. Crew, hangar, insurance, maintenance and fuel typically run from several hundred thousand dollars a year for a light jet to well over a million for a large cabin jet. Ownership usually only makes sense above roughly 300 hours a year. Our ownership cost article covers the numbers.
